Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras 2017 Events

Southwest Louisiana has the second largest Mardi Gras in the state. It is also the only one that krewes allow the general public to view their royal wardrobes without being invited by someone in a krewe.
For Mardi Gras 2017 in Southwest Louisiana, events start January 6 with 12th Night. Below you’ll find the current list of events for Mardi Gras this year.


Mardi Gras 12th Night
When: January 6 at 6PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: $7 at the door – $6 in advance – Children 5 and under get in free
You can purchase advance tickets at these locations: Joseph’s Electric, Gordon’s Drug Store, Moss Bluff Flower Shop, Hamilton House in Sulphur and Party Time Store on Lake Street.

Mardi Gras Community Dance
When: February 3 from 6 PM til 8:30 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: Free

Krewe of the Golden Years Senior Citizens’ Mardi Gras Dance
When: February 7 from 8 AM til 3 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: Must be 60 or over. Admission is free.

City of Sulphur Mardi Gras Parade
When: February 18 at 2PM
Where:Cypress Street through the S-Curve to South Huntington
How Much: Free to the public.

King Cake Taste Off
When: February 18 at 3PM

Lake Charles Mardi Gras Chicken Run
When: February 19; Chicken Run at 1PM, Zydeco Concert at 4PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: Chicken Run is Free to the public. Admission to the concert is $15 for adults, 6 years to 12 years: $5. 5 years and under get in free.

Mardi Gras Merchants’ Parade
When: February 24 at 7PM
Where: Downtown and Midtown Lake Charles – From the Civic Center over Lake Shore to Ryan Street via West Mill Street then Down Ryan Street and ending at Sale Road.
How Much: Free to the public

Krrewe of Barkus Parade
When: Frebruary 25 at 3PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: free

World Famous Cajun Extravaganza and Gumbo Cook-off
When: February 25 beginning at 7:30AM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: $5 – Children 5 and under get in free

Vinton Mardi Gras Celebration
When: February 25 – Gumbo Cook-off starts at 10 AM and a parade at 1 PM, followed by gumbo judging at 2 PM and free gumbo tasting after judging.
Where: The parade will start at Vinton Middle School and end at Knights of Columbus Hall where gumbo cook-off judging will begin.
How Much: Free to the public

Krewe of Illusions – Performance and Ball
When: February 25 at 7:30 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: $40 orchestra (Formal attire required – Includes entrance into the ball that follows the presentation.), $18 balcony reserved seating and $15 for standard balcony seating. Casual attire is accepted in balcony seating.
Balcony tickets can be purchased at Party Time Store at 4452 Lake Street in Lake Charles or at the Lake Charles Civic Center

Krewe of Omega Parade
When: February 25 at 2 PM
Where: Starting on the North side of the Lake Charles Civic Center continuing to Broad St heading East to Enterprise Blvd, then left on Enterprise to Mill Street, finally heading left on Mill Street back to the Lake Charles Civic Center.
How Much: Free to the public

Mardi Gras Zydeco Dance
When: February 25 – 3 PM til 5 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: Price not available

Mardi Gras Children’s Day
When: February 26 from 12 PM til 3 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: Free

Mardi Gras Madness 5k Run
When: February 26, race starts at 2:30 PM
Where: Corner of Lakeshore Drive and Gill Street

Mardi Gras Children’s Day Parade

Mardi Gras Lighted Boat Parade
When: February 26 at 7 PM
Where: Lakefront Promenade on the West side of the Lake Charles Civic Center

Taste de la Louisiane – Traditional Louisiana Cuisisne Sampling
When: February 26 from 11 AM til 1 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: $7

Mardi Gras Royal Gala – Promenade of Krewes’ Costumes
When: February 27 at 7 PM
Where: Lake Charles Civic Center
How Much: $7 at the door, advance discounts –  $5 during January -$6 during Febuary, five and under get in free.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Gordon’s Drug Store, Party Time Store, Medearis’ Costumes, The Mardi Gras Lady and the Lake Charles Civic Center Box Office.

Iowa Chicken Run
When: February 28 at 8 AM
Where: It will begin and end at the KC Hall in Iowa located at 503 US 90, Iowa LA 70647
How Much: $10 for adults and $5 for 12 years and under.

Jeeps on Parade
When: February 28 at 2 PM
Where:  Downtown and Midtown Lake Charles – From the Civic Center over Lake Shore to Ryan Street via West Mill Street then Down Ryan Street and ending at Sale Road.
How Much: Free to Public
